Avian Oasis Rescue is unlike most others. Being different makes this a special place for birds. At our primary location, which is our home, the rescue is run by both my mother and myself. She is retired, and I am an author, so we are almost ALWAYS here dedicating our time and attention to each bird in our care. The birds are not housed at a separate facility, so they are never left unattended to risk us not being able to get to them in severe weather. We also have a generator so losing power is not a risk either for heat in winter. Other locations do include foster homes, with the same level of care standards, and foster bird parents who have many years of experience and love for birds.

Our core values include a proper healthy diet for birds at all times, many toys, and LARGE cages. Many birds who come to us end up getting a cage upgrade, to something larger than what they arrived in. Travel size cages are inhumane and are not meant to permanently house any species of birds.

All birds in our care receive a health assessment, proper quarantine, and any supplements or medications needed to ensure a healthy and happy life.

* We have fosters and volunteers throughout the state and Upper Michigan, so please don't feel you are too far away from us to adopt or surrender a bird!

Parrots are such loving and intelligent animals. That is why having a large cage, and many toys for enrichment is so important to us. A bored parrot can become a plucking parrot, and housing birds, even finches in tiny cages, can shorten their lifespan.

* Please understand we are a small organization, if we do not have a particular type of bird you are looking to adopt, check back later. We never know what birds we might be contacted about next.

* All adoption fees, and donations are non-refundable.

*** A signed requirement sheet, adoption application, pictures and/or video of the room where bird(s) will be kept, and proof of large cage, toys and quality food are required for ALL adoptions.***

Avian Oasis Rescue reserves the right to deny any applications if we feel is not a good fit for the adoptable bird(s). We strive to find the BEST possible home for every parrot in our care.

a NEW section for current Avian Oasis Rescue news!

My recent "TO DO" list included trying to decide what fundraisers to hold for this coming Fall season. It seemed like my ideas just weren't panning out, but after some research, we decided to do an online fundraiser. We will be opening an online store with "Charleston Wrap" for the entire month of October. There will be a ton of items to choose from like candies, kitchen gadgets, gift wrap, and so much more! Christmas will be soon approaching so check out some gift ideas. or shop for yourself. Our rescue will receive 30-40% of the sales, so be sure to keep watch for the link to the store when it becomes available.

We may add another event or fundraiser for Fall, but typically we don't schedule these things in Winter, as travel becomes more difficult, especially where we are in the Northwoods.

Some of you know that my rescue efforts used to focus on outdoor birds, like chickens, peafowl, and turkeys. I had a nice big enclosure I used for a quarantine area, but it doesn't get much use anymore as the indoor bird rescue took off in 2024. I decided to donate it to "ReWild" rescue and sanctuary for wild birds this week. I am glad it will get more use and help out wild birds in need....and well, my husband will be pleased that it will no longer be in the middle of the yard.

Take care of yourselves and all of the feathered loved ones too. Keep those hummingbird feeders up a little longer. I've still been seeing them the past few days. They will need that extra energy before making the long trip south for winter. I sometimes wish I could go with them.
